Job SummaryBecome part of a dynamic team at UNC Health Care, where you will play a vital role in maintaining the highest standards of patient care. Key Responsibilities: As a Central Sterilization Technician, you will be responsible for processing and issuing routine and specialized medical/surgical supplies and instruments used in patient care. Your duties will include cleaning, high-level disinfecting/sterilizing, and packaging medical and surgical instrument trays and inventories. Key Responsibilities: 1. Assemble baskets of instruments, basin sets, and equipment using appropriate checklists and prepare for sterilization.
2. Assemble sets of supplies and instruments used in various clinical settings, checking for cleanliness and functionality.
3. Decontaminate, disinfect, and thoroughly clean supplies, instruments, and equipment used in various procedures.
4. Distribute instruments, equipment, and supplies to the appropriate location.
5. Monitor and maintain adequate levels of supplies, instruments, and equipment.
6. Monitor equipment for malfunctions, make minor repairs, and notify staff of the need for more major repairs.
7. Demonstrate proficiency in reprocessing and maintenance of endoscopes and other endoscopic equipment according to high-level disinfection policy and manufacturer instructions. Maintain scope washers and washer adapters, check detergent levels, and ensure the effectiveness of disinfectants. Effectively communicate information regarding scope repairs, loaners, supplies, and quality improvement data by maintaining documentation of all actions. Wear PPE as per policy, maintain supplies needed for cleaning and reprocessing, and communicate equipment failures and needed repairs effectively. Accurately record data in appropriate logs.
8. Interact with equipment according to manufacturer guidelines, demonstrating a thorough knowledge of instrument and equipment IFUs and processes instruments.
9. Wear PPE as per policy.
10. Maintain supplies needed for cleaning and reprocessing and communicate equipment failures and needed repairs effectively.
11. Accurately record data in appropriate logs.
Requirements: No licensure or certification is required. However, nine months' experience as a sterile tech is required if the position is located at UNC Medical Center or Rex Hospital. Graduation from a sterile processing school may also be considered without prior experience. Work Details: This is a full-time position with a standard work schedule of 40 hours per week. The salary range is $17.50 - $24.63 per hour, with pay offers determined by experience and internal equity. The work assignment type is onsite, and the work schedule is a day job.
